Create Portfolios

There are two basic types of portfolios to create; Cash, the investor is starting with cash only, and Blended, the investor has existing investments that are to be blended, when and as desired, with an Advisor Database (Model Portfolio) and linked Allocation Table Matrix.

In general, all portfolios are created by selecting an appropriate Advisor Database (Model Portfolio) comprised of weighted investments by Investment Sectors and Investment Categories that define how Investment Sector capital will be allocated.

When Advisor Databases are created, they are linked to a selected Allocation Table Matrix composed of any selection and combination of user defined and weighted Investment Sectors @ 25 different matrix intercepts which define unique investor investment profiles; risk tolerances and income/capital growth objectives.

When capital is allocated, Allocation Table Matrixes define how capital will initially be distributed to Investment Sectors based on the matrix intercept selected.

The linked Advisor Database composed of underlying, weighted investments by Investment Sectors (as used in the linked Allocation Table Matrix) and then Investment Categories defines how Investment Sector capital will be distributed to each investment in the Investment Sectors used in the selected matrix intercept.

All other portfolio modifications, reallocate, rebalance, block trade, and changes in investor investment profiles, are variations on these two basic types of portfolios.

All portfolios may be created in moments.

Cash Portfolios

Select the Investor.

Click on the Plus icon (+).

Select the appropriate Advisor Database (Model Portfolio).

You also have the option of copying an investor's existing portfolio if you want to duplicate existing positions; but, with a different amount of starting capital.

As a sidebar, this Window may also be used to copy an existing portfolio when considering portfolio modifications. When you are done, if you like the changes, keep the portfolio, if not, simply delete it with the Delete icon(-); no harm done.

The new portfolio is started by naming the portfolio and by the selection of an Advisor Database.

At Settings, enter commissions, etc. if you like.

Holdings shows the addition of the Advisor Database investments by Investment Sector.

Click on Apply Capital, an allocation shortcut.

The Allocation Wizard will be used at Blend Portfolios.

The Cash portfolio is ready to be allocated.

Click on Select.

The Investment Strategy Selection Window opens.

Select the appropriate investor investment profile matrix intercept.

The weighted Investment Sectors for that investor investment profile matrix intercept appear.

You can do a last minute Investment Sector reweight if you like.

Enter Cash, Cash Reserve, if any, click on Apply and the new allocated portfolio that meets the specific investment needs of that investor, risk, income, growth, is created.

Return to the investor and select reports for viewing and printing.

Blend Portfolios

Blend an investor's existing investments with a selected Advisor Database (Model Portfolio) and linked Allocation Table Matrix.

Evaluate to what extent an investor's existing investment portfolio is consistent with his or her own investment objectives and the advisor's market outlook and recommended investments and perform the investment transition process of shifting capital from the investor’s existing portfolio to the advisor’s model portfolio making changes as and when they are in the economic best interests of the investor.

Modify the blended portfolio as desired.

Select the Cost Basis to be used in Buy/Sell/Hold calculations.

After the initial Blend of the investor's existing investments with the investments in a selected Advisor Database, go to each Investment Sector and decide what to do with each of the investor's existing investments.

When entering an investment sector, Advisor Database investments will be weighted and investors existing investments will appear with a zero weighting.

In cases where an investor already holds an investment(s) in the selected Advisor Database, Investor's WorkStation will, by default, replace an Advisor Database investment(s).

In this case, AMCPX, which was in the Advisor Database and originally weighted @ 35%, and FDCAX, which was in the Advisor Database and originally weighted @ 25%was also held by the investor.

The investor's positions replaced the Advisor Database positions.

For this reason, the Investment Sector, originally weighted @ 100%, shows a weight of 40% because of the removal of AMCPX and FDCAX originally weighted @ 35% and 25% respectively.

The rules are simple:

Delete investor's investments that are to be sold completely. Leave alone investor's investments that are to be held completely. Weight investor's existing investments that are to be included in the allocation process with Advisor Database investments by Investment Sector.

Investment Sector Total Weight must add up to 100%.

  • For example, AMCPX and FDCAX, investor's existing investments, could both be reset to the original Advisor Database weightings to bring the Investment Sector back to 100%.
  • AMCPX (both an Investor's existing investment and an Advisor Database investment) and FEQTX (an Advisor Database investment only) could be weighted in any combination adding up to 100% and FDCAX (both an Investor's existing investment and an Advisor Database investment) could be highlighted and deleted @ Delete Selected and the proceeds of the sale of FDCAX will be included with free cash @ Allocate Portfolios.

Investor's WorkStation will calculate Buys, Holds, and Sells, investment costs, and average investment costs.
