Investor's WorkStation Help

Trade Exports

All Buy/Sell reports may be printed and/or used to generate a Trade Export by selecting Trade Export.

Then check on Trade Export @ the Main Menu and then double-click on the selected trade that is to be executed.

@ Trade Exports select the Custodian.

Click on the Trade Detail tab to review the trades associated with the Trade Export.

You may edit a Trade Export before execution by double-clicking on a trade to delete a trade.

Because the Buy/Sell Trade Export includes all trades generated from the creation or modification of a portfolio(s), a minimum dollar(s) or number of shares limit may be set for all trades in a specific Trade Export. When set, all trades below the minimum will be deleted.

If changes are made, click on Apply Changes to Portfolios to update portfolios and to reconcile Trade Export trades with executed trades @ Import.

Highlight and double-click on a trade to review or modify a trade.

Click on Export to export the trade for execution.

Click on the Systems Tab @ Trade Transactions

The executed trades will appear @ the Trade Transactions tab.

The purpose of this Window is to update portfolios within Investor's WorkStation with the correct trades; quantities and costs.

The program logic and portfolio updating cycle is a follows:

  • Current positions, quantities and costs are in portfolios.
  • Generate a Buy Sell Trade Export.
  • Modify trades.
  • Export trades.
    • When Investor's WorkStation creates a Buy/Sell Trade Export, the Buy and Sell prices are based on the most recent price updates within the program.
  • Import executed trades.
    • Actual Sell quantities and proceeds may be plus or minus Trade Export proceeds.
    • Actual Buy quantities and proceeds may be plus or minus Trade Export proceeds.
  • Trade Reconciliation
    • The actual selling price is not important, because the program retains current balances of Sell positions and costs if only a portion of a position is sold. Actual sell proceeds will be reconciled by being used to Buy or by going to cash at the custodian portfolio.
    • The program does not "know" the actual quantities and costs of the Buy positions because they may have been modified or limited @ the Trade Detail Window and because of possible/probable variances between program costs and actual costs.
      • When Update Positions in Portfolios is clicked, program Buys and Costs lines at each investment in all portfolios will be replaced with actual buy quantities and costs.
    • Import the new updated portfolio from a custodian.
      • If an actual Sell is different than the one generated by the Buy/Sell Trade export because the Sell was modified, Investor's WorkStation will recognize the variance with a custodians current balance and will make position adjustments.
      • The Buy costs and quantities will not have to be manually entered when imported from a custodian because portfolios were adjusted @ Update Positions in Portfolios @ Trade Transactions and those quantities and costs will reconcile with an import of the portfolio from a custodian.

Manual investment quantity and cost adjustments may be made @ Investor Portfolios/a specific portfolio/Holdings tab/highlight a position and click on Adjust Position.

Double-click on the cost line to be adjusted and it will move to the Post line. Make adjustments and click on Post.

Check on Buy or Sell boxes to add a trade not included in the trade export.

Important Concept

As changes are made within portfolios, new Open/Buy/Sell cost lines are added and deleted as investment positions are modified; Create, Allocate, Rebalance, Reallocate, and Block Trade.

When Apply Changes in Portfolios and Update Positions in Portfolios are clicked, the changes are made to the last cost line.

Therefore, it is critical that if the new/modified portfolio is to be used, not deleted and start over again, modified trades, Trade Exports, and executed trades be imported and portfolios updated @ Apply Changes in Portfolios and Update Positions in Portfolios before other portfolio modifications are made. If not, a primary executed trade cost line modification could be incorrectly applied to a secondary trade cost line not yet executed.
